Family drive through to ferry in Calais 'without checks'

A video has emerged from Calais, France of a family allegedly boarding a ferry to the UK "without passing border control".

The footage, filmed by British traveller James Chalkley in February - ahead of the recent crisis - shows a car that was apparently able to drive straight through to the boat without checks.

The couple and their two kids are seen confirming that they managed to drive up to the loading ramps without a ticket or being asked to show their passports after being waved through an open gate.

The filmer says the clip was shot mere yards from the ferry's loading ramp.

"Once on the loading ramp other than a member of staff to wave you onto the boat there are no other security checkpoints to go through", Chalkley later wrote online.

"To get to that area in the docks you need to go through the ferry operators gate, French passport control & security check point, UK passport control and security check point".

"I was on the same ferry, I had already gone through the operators gate in order to be given a loading ticket to be hung from the rear view mirror, French passport and security and British passport and security checks".

"The family had been on a day trip to city Europe and had got lost whilst using a sat nav to get back to the port. They had pulled into an open service gate and were waved straight through the port onto the ramps by the French police, they hadn't even got a ticket!"

The footage has recently emerged, uploaded by the filmer in reaction to the Calais crisis.
