This is the terrifying moment a burning 'ghost bus' with no passengers or driver onboard crashed into cars on a road in Malaysia.

The out-of-control vehicle was covered in thick smoke as it drove along the Raja Muda Musa Crossing in Selangor State's Klang Harbor on July 16.

Footage shows pedestrians screaming in panic when the bus rear-ended an SUV before crashing into a roadside storefront. The SUV driver was seen fleeing from his seat and leaving his car behind.

Locals later put out the flames with fire extinguishers.

Resident Chitwanee Baje said: 'The situation was really chaotic. The bus was emitting thick smoke and moving by itself, hitting whatever was in its path.'

The vehicle was reportedly empty at the time of the accident thanks to the quick-thinking driver who evacuated his passengers as the bus started to catch on fire.

Hafisham Mohd Noor, Assistant Director of Operations of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, said: 'The driver managed to evacuate 20 factory workers when he saw smoke billowing from the engine.'

Six firefighters were dispatched to the scene of the incident.

Hafisham said there were no casualties, but about 40 percent of the bus was torched.

He said: 'It was moving without a driver, going into the opposite lane. It only stopped after hitting a pole.'
