Drone footage from July 30 reveals the wreckage of a border service helicopter that crashed into a mountain in the Georgian ski resort of Gudauri.

The aircraft had spiralled out of control during an attempt to rescue paragliders but crashed into the mountainside on July 29.

Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili has declared Saturday (July 30) a day of mourning.

Eight people were killed in the incident and one foreign tourist was killed in the initial paragliding accident. An injured person has been transported to hospital.

All the victims of the crash of the helicopter belonging to the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Gudauri have been identified.

They were: rescuers - Kakha Torchinava, Giorgi Margiani; pilots - Andro Kujoshvili, Levan Chokheli, Zaza Loria, Dimitri Kaadze; ambulance doctors - Keti Gulagashvili, Giorgi Venetski.

In the vicinity of Gudauri, during paragliding, 2 persons fell on a rocky slope. The helicopter belonging to the Border Police was involved in the rescue operation, which lost control and crashed. All eight people on board of the helicopter died. A foreign paraglider also died. The citizen of Georgia who was also injured during paragliding was taken to the clinic.Due to the Gudauri tragedy, July 30 has been declared a day of mourning in Georgia, reads the statement of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili.

The PM expresses his condolences to the family members and relatives of the deceased, as well as to the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the public.

In these difficult moments, I express my sincere condolences and support to the family members and relatives of the deceased, to the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, to our entire society. Due to the tragedy, July 30 will be declared as a day of mourning in the country," the Prime Minister said.
