Tourists fled from a resort as a raging river burst its banks following heavy rain in the Philippines.

Footage shows tourists rushing out of the gates as muddy water gushed past them in Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur province on August 3.

Rainwater cascaded down from the mountains during a thunderstorm causing the deluge.

Tourist Judy Logronio said: ‘We were swimming when it rained and the water in the river grew bigger. We all left to be safe.'

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.
