This video footage shows a 40-metre superyacht sinking 9 miles off the coast of Catanzaro Marina on the Calabrian coast over the weekend (20-21August2022). The Italian Coast Guard coordinated the rescue of its occupants, saving the four passengers and five crew members. The yacht was en route from Gallipoli and headed for Milazzo when it was hit by a storm. In a statement, Guardia Costiera officials wrote: ”The worsening of meteorological conditions, with the gradual and increasing tilt of the unit on its own straight, have made any attempt to beach the yacht, unknowingly in a short time, impractical. “The identification of the causes that led to its collapse is at the center of a targeted administrative investigation activity conducted by the Catanzara Coast Guard Command.”
