This video shows police officers, rescue services personnel, members of Ukraine’s National Guard and their families from Dnipro singing their country’s national anthem to celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day on Wednesday (24August2022). Some of the singers dressed in their uniforms, while others wore traditional dress, and played a bandura, a traditional Ukrainian instrument. Celebrations in the region around Dnipro were marred, however, after a Russian attack on a railway station in the town of Chaplyne, 80 miles away from the regional capital, killed 25 people and wounded 31 - one of the deadliest attacks since Russia’s invasion began in February. In addition to marking the anniversary of Ukraine’s independence from the Soviet Union, Wednesday also marked exactly six months since Russia’s invasion began.
