Fish were killed after a rooftop pond dried up due to high temperatures in southern China.

Video filmed in the city of Meishan in Sichuan Province on August 23 shows the pond completely dry with the fish carcasses lying on the ground.

The homeowner, Mr Xu, was away for half a month. Since the pond was around 40-centimetres-deep and Mr Xu thought it would not have any problems, he did not ask his family members to take care of the fish for him.

After he returned home and had lunch, he suddenly remembered the fish on the roof and went to check.

However, the pond already dried up and the 20 fish were all dead.

The average temperature in August in Meishan City was 37 degrees Celsius and the highest temperature in the month reached 41 degrees Celsius on August 16.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
