Activists from the Don't Pay UK movement protested outside Ofgem's head offices in London's Canary Wharf this evening (August 26), after the energy price cap was raised by 80% - with an average bill being estimated to reach £3,549 a year.

Speakers pledged support for the for the movement which is looking to sign up a million people before October 1st for a mass non-payment civil disobedience action if the government proceeds with the energy price hike, and has potential to be reminiscent of the Poll Tax revolt where 17 million refused to pay.
Protesters claim that annually 11,400 people die in the UK due to fuel poverty, affecting especially low income homes, the elderly and the disabled.

Demonstrators blocked the road with a large banner saying 'Freeze profits, not people', and a protester sat on the ground, whilst others chanted slogans and ignored police who requested they clear the road.
