This is the heroic moment a kind passer-by rescued a dog that had been washed away by a raging river.

Kritsana Prntama raced towards the pooch that was struggling to escape the deluge following heavy monsoon rain in Trat province, Thailand, on July 29.

Footage shows how the young man waded through the fast-flowing torrents to carry the dog to safety on the opposite side.

The stray dog immediately bounded away to find the members of its pack.

Kritsana said: 'I was so happy that my friend and I rescued the dog before it was too late. The dog could have been swept away and never returned.'

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts from May or June until November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.
