Emergency officers retrieve the bodies to those who lost their lives during a landslide in the Looking Town area of Freetown, Sierra Leone, on August 29.

At least eight people died and many homes were buried after a mudslide struck the area.

The National Disaster Management Agency said four men, one woman, and a girl aged seven died.

Two people were also reported killed in the neighbourhoods of Mount Aureol and Blackhall Road.

Authorities said more than 800 people were displaced following floods and landslides triggered by the torrential rain.

Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio has blamed the disaster on "poor urban planning and mismanagement of resources" and the effects of climate change.

Officials warned of more damage while the rains are expected to continue.
