Residents in a village in Indonesia found a whale in a lifeless condition. The whale was found dead on the beach of Tanjung Simora, Kaimana Regency, West Papua Province.

According to Rusli Ufnia, a resident of Tanjung Simora village, this is the second time a whale has been stranded in the same area, around Tanjung Simora Beach. The first incident occurred in the middle of July.

Rusli said the 7.8 meter long whale was found by residents due to the very strong smell. This Whale Carcass has begun to crumble. Allegedly, this whale had washed up about two weeks ago. And it was only found by local residents on Friday (2/9/2022) at around 18:00 local time.

According to Rusli, the evacuation process for the burial of the whale's carcass was constrained due to low tide. The locals waited for the high tide before the whale's carcass was buried.

Residents have reported these findings to the local government and conservation organizations who are conducting identification. Allegedly, this type of whale, Sei Whale (Balaenoptera borealis), is the same as the one that washed up last July, in an area not far from its current location.
