A kitten in Kharkiv used up some of its nine lives during a Russian rocket attack on a restaurant complex in the Ukrainian city late on Saturday 3 September.

The attack set fire to the multiple-restaurant and hotel complex, much of which was made of wood so turned into a major fire affecting an area said to be around 2,200 square metres (23,680 square feet).

The scared and dirty cat was pulled from smouldering wreckage before being given a gentle wash by a firefighter, with water from a fire engine.

The lucky feline was later handed over to volunteers, who will treat its injured paw.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service (SES) posted the video on social media with the comment: "Heroes of our time. They protect, work, rescue, treat... And we wish the cat a speedy recovery."
