This is the astonishing moment a helicopter shook as an earthquake rocked Papua New Guinea.

The chopper's rotor blades were seen vibrating as the aircraft bounced up and down on the field in Lae on Sunday morning September 11.

Officials from the U.S. Geological Survey reported that the magnitude of 7.7 jolted 65 km WNW of Lae at 08:46:59 local time.

The epicentre, with a depth of 79.0 km, was initially determined to be at 6.4 degrees south latitude and 146.5 degrees east longitude.

Resident David Bennet, a pilot who was in the area at the time, said that the internet had been down for four days following the earthquake.
