Rescuers freed a pet dog that was stuck on a metal fence after it reportedly tried to follow its owner out of their house in Thailand.

Volunteers arrived at the home in Ayutthaya province on September 15 after receiving calls from concerned neighbours about the hapless pooch that had been left hanging by its neck on the fence for at least three hours.

The residents said they first heard the dog whining early in the morning, but paid it no mind until its cries grew louder hours later. They then checked on it and found it with its head poking out of the narrow opening.

Its neck was pinned in place by a sharp metal bar, and its mouth was bleeding from trying to gnaw itself free. The panting animal was given water which it happily lapped up while awaiting rescue.

The neighbours said they tried to free the canine themselves, but it would snap at them whenever they reached out, prompting them to call the specialists instead.

Footage shows the terrified dog biting at the steel cutters as rescuers used the tool to break off part of the railing. Within 20 minutes, the dog was freed with minor injuries to its mouth.

Panya Chumanee, a member of the rescue team, said: 'The dog's head was stuck and it bled from its mouth while trying to wriggle loose. Therefore, we hurried to help it by using a cutter to cut the wire until it was freed.'
