Hundreds of thousands of Canadians were without power on Saturday 24 September after Cyclone Fiona slammed into the country’s Atlantic provinces, causing widespread destruction.

Trees were downed and power poles were snapped in half, roofs were ripped off buildings and homes washed away after Fiona made landfall in eastern Nova Scotia around 3am local time, officials said.

The storm was downgraded from a hurricane to a post-tropical cyclone before it made landfall, but still caused extensive damage.

The video shows some of that damage, on Cape Breton Island.
