A snake sparked panic when it slithered across a family's car window looking for a way inside.

The serpent crawled under the sedan when driver Pop Prapa and her siblings pulled over to refuel at a petrol station in Chonburi province, Thailand on May 21.

However, when the group continued travelling, they noticed the reptile's head poking behind the glass apparently scanning for a hole to enter.

Footage shows the cheeky snake probing the window as shocked Pop and her companions discussed what to do.

The driver said: ‘We almost had a heart attack when we saw the snake. It wanted to come inside. What if my window was down at that time? It would have hit my face.'

A resident and several motorists pulled over to help the women who were too scared to leave.

One of the kind residents volunteered to catch the snake by pushing it off the car with a cloth. It was eventually caught and released on a nearby vacant lot next to the road.
