Typhoon Nesat submerged roads and homes as it barreled into northern Philippines on Sunday.

Nesat, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometres per hour, battered houses in Claveria town, Cagayan province, on October 16 after undergoing 'extreme rapid intensification,' state weather agency PAGASA said.

Footage shows heavy flooding caused by the typhoon as it blew through the town some 600 kilometres north of the capital Manila.

Nesat, known locally as 'Neneng,' made landfall in the Philippines on October 16.

More than 7,500 families in the country's northern regions were affected by the typhoon. The national disaster council has reported no deaths, injuries, or missing persons as of October 17.

Nesat has left the Philippine monitoring area on Monday, but PAGASA warned of occasional showers due to the southwesterlies amplified by the weather system.
