Tropical storm Ma On dumped heavy floods in villages in the Philippines, submerging homes and cars in the country's northern region on August 24.

Video shows rains pummeling Cruz Village in Cagayan province's Tuguegarao City on August 23, with floodwater inundating the streets.

Resident Rachelle Maynigo said: "The storm was terrible. The flood rose so quickly that it entered my neighbour's homes. It's the first time this has happened. Before, the water would never reach past my gate".

State weather bureau PAGASA said Severe Tropical Storm Ma-On touched down in Isabela province at 10:30 am local time on August 22.

It brought torrential rains and floods in the country's north, triggering the suspension of classes and government work in the nation's capital and nearby provinces until August 24.

The storm left the Philippine Area of Responsibility before dawn on Wednesday (August 24) but storm warnings still linger as rain is expected to last until the afternoon, authorities said.
