This is the bizarre moment an overweight Buddhist monk stepped on superstitious temple-goers' backs for good luck.

The chubby youngster was recently ordained at the Samranchit Temple in Chaiyaphum province, Thailand, when his friends asked that he walked on them on October 24.

Some locals joined in and created the human bridge which they believe symbolised them sending the young monk to prosperity - bringing themselves good luck in the process.

Footage shows the orange-robed youngster being assisted on each side while balancing on the backs of temple-goers.

An onlooker said: ‘His friends believed that by making the bridge for the monk, it would bring them good karma. It is considered auspicious.'

Buddhism is the official religion of Thailand where it was followed by more than 95 per cent of the population.
