Police have deployed live camera surveillance towers in Paducah, Kentucky, as part of efforts to reduce retail crime.

Footage shows the towers, powered by solar panels, set up around the city.

The towers will be placed in retail parking lots in Paducah and Opelika, Alabama, and will track and share data with the authorities.

Paducah, KY was chosen as part of a pilot program as one of two cities to receive live camera survelliance towers at no cost to the city. It is called ACCESS TASKFORCE ran by a company called LIVEVIEW TECHNOLOGY. Some may see it as big brother watching over them however the police say they are deployed in an effort to prevent and prosecute crime particularly retail crime as I observed the camera towers deployed outside of the Walgreens, Dick's Sporting Goods and JC Pennys at the Kentucky Oaks Mall as well as at Home Depot and two are deployed at Walmart. There are a surprisingly large number of these camera towers systems deployed around this small town. I think this will really help prevent Paducah from becoming like other cities where retail theft is rampant. I support my local police, sheriff, and first responders. We are lucky to have great law enforcement here in Paducah, KY. Very professional and I have full faith in them! Here is a link for more information on the program.
