This is the moment residents caught a large python hiding inside a pet bird's enclosure.

Apantree Petchnathong heard the birds crying at their aviary in their home in Bangkok, Thailand on November 26.

He checked the cage and found the serpent hiding behind a ladder and some tools.

Footage shows Apantree pulling the snake out of the structure into their garage.

He said: ‘I heard my birds crying. They always do that when a stranger enters our lot.

‘But the cries were very loud. I was alarmed so I went to check and then I saw the snake.'

The resident, with the help of a relative, carried the snake to the garage and placed it inside a plastic box with cover.

In the morning, an animal rescuer arrived to take it and released it back into the wild.

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
