Floral tributes were left near the scene of the tragedy, including by emotional firefighters who tried to save the boys during the rescue effort.
Seven sombre-looking firefighters formed a line as they laid bouquets of flowers while being applauded by members of the public for their bravery.
One tribute read: "With deepest sympathy. Rest in peace boys. Love from Sheldon Red Watch."
West Midlands mayor Andy Street also left a tribute at the scene.
It read: "Such a tragedy. So unnecessary."
My heart goes out to the families that have lost their most precious gift.
"May their young lives rest in peace, and may Kingshurst come together to remember them."
Another tribute from Marston Green Football Club read: "Thinking of you and your families in this difficult time. R.I.P From all at Marston Green FC."
Another read: "Sleeptight little angels fly high. Godbless & RIP. Love Adrian and Cindy."
A local couple who were paying their respects at the lake said: "We live just over the other side of the lake. It actually backs onto our garden."
"We heard the news and what's happened and it's dreadful."
"You just think of the young lives and what their family must be going through."
Kamren Whyte, a member of the New Testament Church of God, in Kingshurst, has been at the scene handing out warm drinks to emergency services workers since Sunday night (11/12).
The 20-year-old said: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic incident that occurred at the lake yesterday evening."
"Our immediate response was to provide hot drinks and food for the brave emergency crew on the scene."
"A huge thank you to the West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service, and the West Midlands Ambulance Service for their acts of heroism."
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends who have been affected."
