A heroic police officer crawled almost 100 feet (30m) across a frozen lake to rescue a woman who had fallen into the water.

A video shows Officer Chen Geng lying on a stretcher and crawling across the thinly frozen Xianyan Lake in Shaanxi Province, China.

The woman, who had been in the water for several minutes, was semi-conscious with temperatures reaching minus 10 degree Celsius.

With the assistance of local official Yan Ming, Officer Chen Geng was able to pull the woman across the ice and back to shore.

It is unclear how the woman fell but she was rescued in less than 15 minutes.

The woman, who hasn't been named, was taken to a nearby hospital and has been reported to be in stable condition.

The incident happened on December 22nd.
