Watch the moment a horse was rescued after falling into a six-foot-deep sinkhole in Somerset in the southwest of England.

Against all the odds, Harvey was pulled out and made a full recovery.

It was a stressful morning when I was awoken at 4am by our horses neighing in the field, rushing down to investigate the commotion by torchlight, I could not see any sign of Harvey. After a while of inspecting the fences looking for a possible escape route, I found he had plummeted 6ft down, in a sink hole.
It was hugely traumatic, as at this point I had no idea what had happened as I saw him struggling, unable to get up and fearing the worst of a broken leg, I called the vet. It then became apparent that he must have just fallen straight down as the soil gave way and his four legs were completely immersed in the soil up to his chest, leaving him unable to get out. Stuck in greensand, his every movement and effort to free himself just sucked him further down in what looked like brown blancmange.
We had to call the Fire Services, Somerset Animal Rescue, vet Emma from Isle Valley Vets and a local farmer, Philip Wright, all who rushed to our rescue and embarked on a painstaking 2 hour rescue mission.
After sedating him, the animal rescue had to dig away the wet clay to pass a harness under his belly and chest. He was then hoisted out of the clay leaving behind 4 impressions of where his legs had been!

Thankfully, against all odds, he was fine and is just a little bewildered and stiff...not to mention muddy!! He was very lucky to escape with barely a scratch on him!
