A group of tourists having a picnic had a close encounter with a pair of adolescent hyenas looking for food.

Conservationist Susan Brown, 45, was at the Assfal picnic site in Kruger National Park when she came across the close call with the wild animals on August 13.

As tourists are eating their picnics and food, the hyenas can be seen skulking around the area, scrounging for any left behind food.

Some picnic goers have even been seen to be giving the hyenas food from the bench.

Another visitor can be seen approaching the wild hyenas, getting a closer look and a picture whilst on their way to the toilets.

Susan said: “The wild hyenas are allowed to roam around the picnic spot and check bins, pick up scraps and even have visitors feed them from the tables.

“The animals go into the toilets also and people are fascinated and enjoy this unique situation.

“I was just shocked and in disbelief at peoples total disregard and respect for a wild animal.

“It seems people are oblivious to the fact these are two dangerous animals that in one bite could take a limb off.”
