A British backpacker was shocked when a wild monkey started drinking from water bottles on her balcony.

Kate Etheridge watched in disbelief as the primate leaped onto the table to grab an ice-cold bottle of water on the island of Koh Phi Phi, Thailand on February 14.

The tourist from Chelmsford, Essex, was standing behind the glass windows while the thirsty monkey rummaged through the items then gulped down the liquid from a bottle that had already been opened.

Shocked Kate was heard saying in the video: ‘The water out… Oh my God. We can't drink any of that now.'

Kate said: ‘We were surprised when there monkey appeared outside the room. It even knew how to open the bottle and finished it.

'Monkey see, monkey do!'
