Three men performed DIY surgery to remove parasites from a chicken's head.

The young lads noticed one of the hens has become unusually lethargic in their farmyard in Kanchanaburi province, Thailand on February 19.

Suspecting it was sick, the trio caught the brown bird for a health inspection until they found out what had been hurting the poor creature.

Using a cotton swab, vinegar, and a lighter, the poultry chicken farmers extracted the skin-crawling organisms from its eye.

Footage shows the transparent creepy-crawling worms emerging from between the hen's lids and eyeball.

Chicken owner Aikkiw said: ‘I have seen that behaviour before with my other birds. I already had a hunch and confirmed it after a closer look.'

The farmers dipped cotton tips in the vinegar which was swabbed around the eyes and force the worms out.

When Aikkiw applied pressure around the eyeball, at least three worms that are 2cm long on average were extracted.

The brave chicken grower held the intertwined worms that looked like glass noodles on the tip of his nails before burning them on a cotton swab.

Aikkiw said: ‘I don't know if the other chickens have it too. I will have to be vigilant because the parasites spread fast.'

The chicken was believed to have suffered from an infestation of Manson's eyeworm. These parasites reach the chicken's eyes when the creatures eat an infected roach. They send their larvae from the esophagus to the mouth, and travel to the tear duct, and eventually end up around the eye.
