A grandmother pulled a horrifying 8ft-long giant tapeworm from her backside following years of eating raw meat dishes.

The sick 61-year-old rushed to the emergency room complaining of stomach pains and that her anus itched severely in Sa Kaeo province, Thailand.

The unnamed patient was given medicine to take, which purged the parasites. In less than an hour after taking the tablets, she defecated six small worms and ten more the following day.

However, doctors and nurses were shocked when the old woman returned after four days on November 12 and showed them a massive tapeworm wrapped in plastic.

Footage shows the pensioner unravelling the worm on the plastic using a pen. The parasite looked like overcooked spaghetti and was reportedly pulled that morning.

Nurse Arunee Homlamul said: ‘I looked at the plastic bag that the grandmother brought and I immediately recoiled in disgust. I've only seen those in medical books and it was terrifying in person.

‘She wanted to show us that the medicine worked. She even told the doctor that we didn't have to touch it, we just have to look.'

The old woman was checked by the doctor again and given another dose of medicine.

Medics said she told them she loved eating raw meat, which is believed to have contained the parasite's eggs.

Nurse Arunee said the patient's favourite dish was raw beef and chilli.

She added: ‘The woman will be fine but we want to remind everyone to be mindful of what we eat. It is sometimes scary what is in our food.'

Tapeworms are ribbon-like parasites that live and grow within the human intestines. They enter the body as eggs, usually
