This is the moment a Filipino worker was allegedly caught stealing money from a tourist as they went through airport security checks.

Footage shows a female employee apparently inserting a 'stolen' wad of cash into her colleague's pocket at the notoriously bad state-run Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, Philippines on February 24.

Holidaymaker Piyawat Gunlayaprasit from Thailand said he was about to board a transit flight and filmed the footage as evidence after he heard fellow traveller Kitja Thabthim complaining that he had lost 20,000 Japanese yen (around 146 USD).

The woman, after receiving Kitja's report about the missing cash, had allegedly pointed him to the Lost and Found section since she claimed there were no security cameras in the area.

However, Piyawat said he noticed the workers with the money then passed through the scanners and pulled aside Kitja to show him the video.

The airport worker was confronted with Piyawat's footage before discretely giving Kitja back the money. The worker also allegedly begged for him to delete the recording from his iPad, and he complied since he wanted to 'get away from her'.

Piyawat said: 'The video stayed in my cloud storage. I shared the videos as a lesson for tourists going to the airport in the Philippines. Always be careful of your belongings.'

The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) at the airport said five screening officers involved have now been suspended and are facing investigations. Four of them were job order personnel hired just last year, while another was a contractual worker who had been working at the airport for around five years.

In a statement, the OTS said: 'The OTS took immediate actions to identify the involved screening officers. Subsequently, they were relieved from their duty and were placed under preventive suspension. OTS investigators are now preparing to file the appropriate administrative cases.

'We would also like to pursue the filing of criminal cases against them and we will seek the cooperation of the victimized foreign nationals to expedite the filing of an airtight case.

'These illegal acts will not be tolerated and we will apply the full force of the law to penalize the perpetrators. They shall not only be dismissed from the service but shall also be put behind bars for their criminal acts that tarnish the reputation and integrity not only of OTS but the entire country in general.

'We would like to assure everyone that the OTS management will exhaust all available strategies to correct the lapses in our operations by nurturing a new culture of professionalism, integrity and commitment for public service.'
