A rescued alligator was released into a pond in Tampa, Florida.

The 12ft and three inches reptile affectionately named MacDill was spotted searching for food at a neighbourhood near Gatorama.

It wandered too far from its habitat and concerned locals called the MacDill Air Force Base rescuers to jump in and help.

Footage shows MacDill being set free on the banks before it crawled back to the water and swam away.

The rescuers said they urged locals to be aware of their surroundings especially near the pond where wildlife resides.
