A cheeky octopus attempted to pull a camera right out of a diver's hands.

Footage captured in Hurghada, Egypt, shows the mollusc reaching out toward the camera and sticking several of its suckers onto the lens.

The filmer said: "As I approached him, I noticed the mollusc reaching out to me and my camera. He then touched my hand and my camera.

"I felt his suckers sticking to my skin and had a little shock, but managed to stay focused while recording it.

"Shortly after that, he moved his arm so that his suckers were right in front of my camera lens.

"He started pulling and I pulled back. He was strong, I really had to pull hard.

"Then the red filter of my camera came off the housing. I had to fight for my camera and red filter so that he does not steal it. After a few seconds, the creature then gave up. Later I recorded the octopus from further away."
