A once-thriving housing estate has been left looking like a post-apocalyptic abandoned neighbourhood after all of the tenants were evicted.

Footage shows the deserted homes with crumbling walls and ceilings in the Chokchai 4 district of Bangkok, Thailand.

Old dilapidated furniture left by families that previously lived in the units was scattered on the car park while the ground floor of the building has already been smashed by workers for demolition.

The area used to be a busy market district which was lively from morning until night. There was a massage parlour, hotel, nightclub and even a shop selling vintage goods imported from Europe.

However, the developers Lat Prao Chokchai Phatthana that previously leased the land did not renew a contract that ended in 2018 as the price soared due to the completion of a nearby rail line.

Occupants were forced to move out on December 31, 2019, after the company agreed to return the land to the owner. Buildings have been left empty ever since with just a handful of families squatting illegally.
