This is the spectacular moment a 'halo of clouds' covered the tallest peak in the Philippines.

Footage shows the white cap of lenticular clouds blanketing the summit of Mount Apo, a dormant volcano also known as Apo Sandawa, in Davao del Sur province on February 24.

Awe-struck onlooker Peter Lebo said: 'I was amazed because this only rarely happens here, especially in the early morning.'

The umbrella-like formation is known as a lenticular cloud. They are formed when air moves across obstacles such as hills and mountains. When there is enough moisture, water vapour in the rising air current condenses, creating the lens-shaped phenomenon.

Mount Apo is 9692 ft (2,954 metres) above sea level and the highest peak in the archipelago of 7,640 islands that form the nation of the Philippines. It is also the 24th highest peak on earth.
