British soldiers beat cricket teams from around the world to be crowned the winners of a tournament played -- on a frozen lake.

Cricket On Ice takes place in St Moritz, Switzerland, and this year four British teams took part.

The four-day Twenty20 format tournament was won by Guards Cricket Club - the cricket team for officers and soldiers of the Guards and Household Cavalry.

A far cry from their home at Burton Court, Chelsea, they slipped around on the ice, with many wearing trail shoes and snowboarding gear.

An incredible video of the competition - arranged by hosts St Moritz Cricket Club - shows the pitch set out on the ice, nestled at the foot of the Alps.

Alongside the winners, the other three UK teams included Strokers Cricket Club from Northamptonshire, Old Cholmeleians XI and Gussets Cricket Club, both from London.

The other competitors were hosts St Moritz Cricket Club, Roggenhorn Cricket Club from Klosters, Switzerland, a club from Munich,

and Lyceum Alpinum XI, from Zuoz.

The drone video of the competition was shot by British village cricketer Toby Marriott, 28, who played for Roggenhorn CC.

It was their first ever game as a club, and Toby was invited to play for them after he featured two members - Chris and John - on his 'Six and Out' series, posted on his YouTube channel Cricket District.

He scored 145 runs from 20 overs.

Toby, from Sussex, said: "It was absolutely amazing."

"I'd read about it three or four years ago and always wanted to take part."

"It shows how cricket is a very sociable sport. It's got a misconception that you need lots of expensive equipment, but you really can play anywhere."

"When it got a bit hotter you could hear the ice creaking which was a bit unnerving! "

"But we were assured on the morning of each day's play that it was safe."

"I wore trail running shoes and snowboarding gloves to bat in. "

"There's a lot of snow packed on top of the ice so it's not as slippery as you think."

"It was really great fun, but it can be quite hard to hit sixes!"

The event has run annually since 1988.

Toby first featured Chris and John on his YouTube channel when they built a cricket pitch, complete with nets, a bowling machine, and a scoreboard, in lockdown.

The featured game in the video saw Roggenhorn Cricket Club win against Strokers CC.

RCC went on to win against German CC, before they lost against Old Cholmeleians XI, and Guards CC.
