A Canadian father stumbled across a softshell snapping turtle whilst they were out jogging in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

David Frei captured the moment he encountered the reptile on April 8.

He then proceeded to help the turtle across a street and guided it toward a nearby pond.

Frei told Newsflare: "I stumbled across this massive softshell snapping turtle trying to cross the street while I was jogging in Florida. I hung around and escorted it across the street to make sure it got to the pond safely."
