A man released a 26kg Chinese softshell turtle after he spent more than £600 to buy it from a market in southeast China.

In the video, filmed in the city of Nanchang in Jiangxi Province on October 18, the softshell turtle was put in a bag and placed in a red basin.

According to the vendor, the Chinese softshell turtle was wild. Xiong's wife said: "We bought it for releasing it back to the wild. It is a pity to eat it because it is not easy for the softshell turtle to grow that big."

After Mr Xiong bought the softshell turtle, he can be seen opening the bag to release it near a river and the turtle crawls back into the sea.

熊先生爱人介绍，丈夫一大早来到高新区麻丘镇的一家菜市场买菜，看到有人出售这只甲鱼。对方说，这是野生的。
丈夫花5600元买下，随后来到河边放生。熊先生妻子说，“买来放生 ，我觉得吃了反而更可惜，这么大，真的好难得 。”

担心甲鱼缺氧，熊先生一家很快来到河边将甲鱼放生，让它回归大自然。
渔政科的工作人员称，野生的甲鱼学名叫做中华鳖，属于省级水生保护动物，但熊先生买来的这只甲鱼由于已经放生，无法认定是否为野生的。工作人员介绍，市民发现类似新奇的水生生物，可以及时联系渔政部门，不要轻易处理。
