A forest fire broke out on a mountain near a military academy in Thailand on Thursday evening.

The blaze erupted on the Khao Tabaek mountain - which had also been engulfed by flames three weeks ago - in Nakhon Nayok province early evening on April 20.

It ripped through woodland near the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy, where a fire had ravaged a carpark destroying more than 100 golf carts on Tuesday.

Firefighters were dispatched to monitor the situation, but they could not climb the mountain due to poor visibility and strong winds causing the blaze to spread rapidly.

Authorities believe the fire may have been caused by human activity, with farmers across the country currently burning waste crops leading to high levels of air pollution.

Army chief General Narongphan Jitkaewtha said he will travel to the area today, while the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said it will send helicopters to battle the fire.

Thailand has suffered from dozens of forests fires in recent weeks due to the intense heat and the spread of agricultural burning.
