This is the bizarre moment a tourist floating on a raft was rescued by the coast guard in Thailand.

The man, who has not been named, was spotted riding a raft made of palm fronds as he drifted at sea near Koh Kood island in southeastern Trat province on April 15.

A group of Thai locals who set sail for a fishing trip found the lad floating serenely with his luggage on the water, apparently undistressed.

Onlooker Thaksaporn who filmed the clip said: 'We chartered a boat to go fishing and found him floating in the middle of the sea while returning to the resort. We immediately called for help.'

With a storm brewing on the horizon, they feared the foreigner would not survive the rough seas.

A boat with marines later arrived to tow the man and his allegedly self-made raft back to shore.
