In what was widely seen as a snub to King Charles III and the British people and Commonwealth the new Labor Premier of NSW Chris Minns cancelled the lighting up of Sydney Opera House to save money after the previous state government had organised a display of the King’s “cypher” (the official royal monogram). Instead two much less significant buildings, Cape Bowling Green Lighthouse (pictured) at the Maritime Museum in Pyrmont and Admiralty House in Kirribilli were illuminated in Royal purple from 5pm to mark the coronation. About one hundred buildings will be lit up across Australia.
