A hapless pet dog stuck in a steel wire fence was rescued in Mexico.

The pooch was trying to climb up the structure to escape into the street but its legs were tangled with the wires in Aguascalientes on April 26.

It only made soft whimpering sounds, as it was seemingly guilty of trying to run away when it was told to stay indoors until an amused passerby found the creature.

Footage shows the brown dog in distress as it is stranded on the fence. It was lying on its side while its four limbs clung onto the thin cords, careful not to fall.

Passerby Marlen Pacheco said: ‘The dog was lying in the mesh when I found it. I thought it was only playing, but then it looked like it needed help.'

Marlen called the property owners and freed the creature after being discovered.

She added: 'The dog didn't look hurt, and it was not even making a sound. Maybe it was afraid that it would be caught trying to play outside.'
