Floods submerged roads as a storm battered eastern Thailand on Friday.

Video shows rainwater cascading into a carpark while rubbish-filled flood swamped a road in Chonburi province following heavy rain on May 12. Some drivers had to scoop out water after it seeped into their vehicles.

Local media reported that the flood subsided after two hours.

The Thai Meteorological Department forecasted thunderstorms and isolated heavy rains in the north, northeast, and central regions of Thailand, including the capital Bangkok and surrounding areas.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are approaching their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
