A South American fur seal with a plastic strap stuck around its neck was rescued by workers in Aguas Verdes, Argentina.

Footage shared by the Mundo Marino Foundation shows vets carefully cutting the strapping that was causing serious damage to the animal's neck.

The seal will remain at the rescue centre until it has made a full recovery.

A South American fur seal is rescued in Aguas Verdes, Argentina, with a deep neck wound caused by a plastic strap commonly used for industrial packaging.

The Mundo Marino Foundation workers cut and remove the strap after administering an anesthetic.

The seal is then thoroughly cleaned and shown recovering at the center. The foundation stated that the seal was found on the beach with the injury and required treatment due to the severity of the wound. A veterinary doctor noted that the seal's condition is guarded but hopeful for recovery.

The seal will remain at the Rescue Centre until it fully recovers.
