Man saves baby raccoon and reunites it with its mother after being stuck in his chimney
In a heartwarming turn of events, Mack Lunn, a compassionate homeowner in Cookeville, Tennessee, found himself on an unexpected adventure after hearing cries coming from his basement on June 1. As he recounts, "I heard the baby cries at about 9:15," sparking his curiosity and prompting him to investigate the source of the distress.
Armed with determination, Mack delved into his basement, only to encounter a surprising obstacle in his path. He describes how the chimney or soot chute was obstructed by sticks, forming a barrier approximately 2-3 feet tall. Undeterred, Mack recounts how he "had to dig with a tiny shovel through that hole," determined to reach the source of the cries.
After a valiant effort that lasted around 20 minutes, Mack finally made a breakthrough. Through the small opening he had created, he discovered an adorable sight—a baby raccoon. Overjoyed to find the little creature unharmed, Mack shares, "Yes, the baby raccoon is a-okay." It seems that the clever mother raccoon had taken refuge with her offspring in the chimney until Mack's arrival.
Understanding the urgency of the situation, Mack quickly formulated a plan to ensure the raccoon family's safety. He recalls leaving a ladder up to the roof, allowing the resourceful mother raccoon to lead her little one to freedom once darkness fell. He explains, "They vacated as soon as it got dark."
While bidding farewell to the raccoon family tugged at Mack's heartstrings, he cherishes the memory of their encounter. He admits with a touch of humor, "It broke my heart because I wanted to keep him haha." Although Mack couldn't keep the baby raccoon as a pet, the experience left an indelible mark on his heart.
