An extreme heatwave has killed at least 34 people in the past two days in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

The footage shows several people lying on beds after being admitted to a hospital in Ballia, one of the most affected cities, due to the intense heat. So far, 20 deaths have been recorded there.

On June 16, Ballia experienced a maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees Celsius, as reported by the India Meteorological Department, surpassing the normal range by 4.7 degrees Celsius.
