This is the shocking moment a paraglider plunged from the sky due to an engine failure.

The flying tourist was spotted by resident Chakrit Kunakad as he was driving to work in Lamphun, northern Thailand, on June 25.

When he stopped to take a video of the sight, Chakrit noticed one of the group rapidly descending. Chakrit said the glider ejected himself before hitting a concrete fence below.

Medics arrived at the scene to tend to the injured man, who sustained only minor injuries to his left ankle. He was taken to the Pa Sang Hospital for treatment.

Speaking to local media, the unnamed glider said: 'I was paragliding with my friends when my engine suddenly stopped. I managed to steer the paraglider onto an empty area and jumped off just before I hit the ground.'

Chakrit said: 'I feel very very relieved that he was not seriously hurt. I did what I could to help him when he was injured.'

The average number of paragliding accidents per year is approximately 50 serious accidents worldwide. The most common causes bad weather, human error and injuries to the pilot mid-flight.
