STORYLINE:

STANDUP 1 (English): GU YU, Xinhua correspondent
"I'm now in Kuqa City in China's Xinjiang. Around me are endless photovoltaic panels, which can convert solar energy into electricity, the electricity will be used to produce hydrogen with almost no carbon dioxide emissions."

The China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group), the country's largest oil refiner, completed the construction of a 20,000 tonnes-per-year green hydrogen plant in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Friday.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): ZHOU JUN, Deputy general manager of Sinopec Star Xinjiang Green Hydrogen New Energy Co., Ltd.
"This solar station covers an area of more than 9,700 mu (about 646.7 hectares), equivalent to 900 football fields. So far, 546,868 photovoltaic modules have been installed at the station."

STANDUP 2 (English): GU YU, Xinhua correspondent
"This is the key area of the green hydrogen project, where the water will be converted into hydrogen and oxygen."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): WANG YANXIN, Manager of Science and Technology Information Department of Sinopec Star Co., Ltd.
"We mainly use the local tap water to produce hydrogen and oxygen through an alkaline electrolyzer. The hydrogen and oxygen will be first sent to the gas fractionation units, and finally to storage tanks after purification."

STANDUP 3 (English): GU YU, Xinhua correspondent
"These white tanks are hydrogen storage facilities, which can hold a total of 210,000 cubic meters of hydrogen."

The hydrogen stored here will be sent to a nearby Sinopec refining company.

It can replace fossil energy such as natural gas to produce hydrogen and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 485,000 tonnes per year.
