This is the heart-stopping moment a pedestrian was almost crushed by a speeding bus in southwest India.

CCTV footage shows a woman in a long black robe crossing the road in Mangaluru City in the state of Karnataka when the large vehicle came racing across the tarmac on June 20.

The local apparently did not hear the loud horn and carried on walking moments before the bus screeched right in front of her.

The alert bus driver managed to swerve to the roadside to avoid hitting her, with another pedestrian jumping out of its way.

Shocked bystanders walked over to check on the woman, who escaped the near-miss accident with minor injuries on her hand.

Local media reported that a First Information Report has been registered on the driver.
