STORYLINE:

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): ONYEBUCHI CHIAMAKA HENRIETTA, Nigerian student, Central South University
"My name is Onyebuchi Chiamaka Henrietta. I'm an international student from Nigeria studying at Central South University, central China's Hunan Province.
I heard from my African friends that here in Hunan, they actually have a coffee shop that produces African coffee made with African beans.
So here I am, and I have sipped it, I have tried it. It actually tastes like home."

The coffee shop, which features African coffee beans, sits in Changsha's Gaoqiao Grand Market.

About 40 percent of the 2,000 tonnes of coffee beans sold at the market in 2022 were imported from Africa.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): JING JIANHUA, Founder of the Hunan Xiaokazhu Coffee Co., Ltd.
"Relying on the platform advantages and policies of the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, we can directly communicate with African coffee farmers. We also set up a coffee roasting factory, which can reduce our overall cost by nearly 30 percent. Meanwhile, the approach can increase the profits of those African coffee farmers."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): ONYEBUCHI CHIAMAKA HENRIETTA, Nigerian student, Central South University
"I can't wait to bring all my friends, all my African friends to come and have a taste of this coffee, this coffee from Africa.
I believe this place will buzz with conversations and the clatter of cups, and I hope it can attract more Chinese customers and bring the African coffee culture closer to the Chinese public."
