This was the moment police drove at speed through flooding on an emergency call as members of the public negotiated flooding after torrential rain hit Birmingham on Saturday 8 July evening.

The heavy rain lasted for 3 hours with drivers taking to raised cycle lanes to avoid the deep water.

Some drivers drove through the water at speed, flooding their engines and causing them to stop in the middle of the flood.

Bus drivers drove past marooned vehicles ferrying their passengers to their destinations whilst traffic was gridlocked around the city.

Drains were overloaded, spewing out storm water and effluent into the surrounding streets.
