Giant mascots modeled on Superman, Batman and Minions joined a festival parade in the Philippines

Footage shows the 18ft-tall models, known as ‘higantes' or ‘giants', inspired by the iconic film and comic book characters at the Pahiyas Festival in Quezon province on May 15.

Local performers carried the paper-mache models from a hollow space inside supported by bamboo and light material rattan.

Local brands and even politicians also produced their own mascots for publicity.

Tourist Louise Meryl Alvarez said: ‘It was a fun event. We try to come and see the celebration every year.'

Pahiyas is a Filipino harvest festival celebrating San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers.
